The Hideaway At Windermere is a restaurant with rooms offering a welcome with warmth and a whole lot more than a place to stay. The aim is simple: to offer attractive peaceful rooms, great service and superb food in a relaxed, stylish environment.
Surrounded by peace and tranquillity, yet in the heart of it all, the Hideaway At Windermere is conveniently located, close to the very centre of the charming village of Windermere, surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Lake District.

The restaurant is also open to non-residents and provides stylish dining in an informal atmosphere. 2 light and airy rooms, both overlooking the peaceful garden, create an intimate ambience in which to relax and enjoy your food. Attentive, yet unstuffy service awaits, provided by the friendly professional team, whilst the kitchen bustles, ready to delight.
Richard heads up the kitchen team himself; working with a hands on approach and an uncomplicated cooking style, he believes in serving the very best, simple food; allowing the delicious natural flavours to speak for themselves.
With the use of fresh, local, seasonal ingredients, the menu is an eclectic mix of traditional local dishes, modern British food, and just a hint of global influences. Whatever the dish, Richard's aim is to present delicious food with a creative twist.
The well-stocked bar offers a selection of bottled beers and local bitters, favourite tipples and nightcaps. The wine list is interesting and varied and is certain to meet all tastes.
Area information
There are various local walks to Lake Windermere itself, starting from approximately 15 minutes away. By car, Ambleside is a 10-minute drive away, with spectacular views of the lake all along the way.
Travel information
- Leave the M6 motorway at junction 36 and follow the signs for Windermere (the road is dual carriageway for most of the way).
- As you enter Windermere, you will pass the Windermere Hotel on the right (raised on the hillside). Do not turn left into Windermere village, but continue on the main road, passing the NatWest Bank and a row of shops on the left-hand side.
- Continue on past the next turning on your left (Elleray Road), and take the next turning on the left, which is Phoenix Way.
- The Hideaway At Windermere is on the right-hand side.
By Train:
Transfer from mainline trains at Oxenholme train station, where you will find direct trains to Windermere. Taxis are generally readily available at Windermere train station, or alternatively, the Hideaway At Windermere is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the station.

Restaurant reservations for the night of arrival must be made in advance.
The Hideaway welcomes private groups for celebrations and exclusive-use bookings; however, to ensure the personal requirements of such a booking can be accommodated, bookings for 4 rooms or more cannot be accepted.
